This is a 2 owner, number matching, 1969 SS 396 Chevelle.  Its original owner, Buddy Harris, purchased the car new from Dominion Chevrolet in Richmond , VA.   The car was sold to the present owner in February 2002.  Buddy, a car mechanic by trade, kept the car maintained and garaged.  It has never been the “basket case” that you see so often.  

The car was built the 4^th week of January 1969, in Baltimore , MD.   The paint and top were new around 1992.  The carpeting and driver’s seat cover have been replaced, but the rest of the interior is original.  The engine was rebuilt at around 95,000 miles, completely stock, with only minor honing of the cylinder walls.  The TH-400 transmission is original.  

The ’69 model, similar to the sleekly styled ’68, is recognizable as the first Chevelle year without vent windows (replaced with Astro Ventilation).  In 1969, Chevrolet produced 367,100 Chevelles, and 86,307 (24%) were SS 396 models!  The popularity of the muscle car had obviously grown by ‘69!  The SS 396 is definitely not a rare car, but it is unquestionably a legend in muscle cars.

(Chrome valve covers and air cleaner, mag style wheels, and front power disk brakes were standard equipment on the SS model.)
