These photos of Guido's 1960 DeSoto Adventurer represent this car's Swan Song as 1960 was the last year Chrysler Corporation built this awesome automobile. Because of the "look alike" body styles of the Chrysler, DeSoto and Dodge during this era more marketing emphasis was placed on the mighty Chrysler 300 and the lower priced Dodge than on the DeSoto. In 1960 only 26,081 DeSoto automobiles were built with 11,597 being badged as the Adventurer series. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 20% of the Adventurer series were built as 2 door hardtop coupe models while the balance were produced as the then very popular 4 door hardtop and 4 door post sedan models. The Adventurer series was built on a 122" wheel base and was originally produced with a 383 CI engine with a 2 barrel carburetor rated at 305 bhp. A 4 barrel carburetor version was soon brought to the market place offering 325 bhp. As orders for and the production of the DeSoto dwindled the engine was changed to a 361 CI, 295 bhp engine. The 1960 Adventurer has a *Torqueflite, pushbutton drive transmission, swivel bucket seats, power steering and brakes and a luxurious interior for that day.
